For this project we were tasked with painting a landscape picture using acrylic paint on a canvas. For me I'd never used acrylic paint, much less a canvas, before. This project had two new experiences for me. One, learning and using acrylic paints, and the other, learning what is was like to paint on a canvas. While it wasn't as formidable as previously expected, if definitely had a bit of a learning curve. It didn't take long to learn what is was like to paint on the canvas and how different brushstroke would look on it. The bigger challenge came in mixing the paints. Figuring out the amount of paints needed to form different colors definitely was the harder of the two new experiences.
Throughout the project I came upon many issues, most of them due to the bridge in the middle of it. Throughout it I was questioning how the bridge should look and white shade of grey it should be. Not only the shading and look of it, but also how to deal with the barely visible trees behind it. Wventually though I decided to ignore the trees since on the picture they were barely visible in the picture, and found a nice shade and look for the bridge. However when the bridge was finished I had to work on the shade caused by the bridge above the water. I had to find a shade of blue that showed the shadow that the bridge cast on the water, but wasn't too stark in contrast. After a long time of mixing though, I think I found a shade of blue that worked well with both aspects of the shade.
Near the back end of the project I looked back and observed the painting. When I looked back over I noticed several things that needed fixing. I had the sky and the water too close a shade of blue so it looked confusing as to what they were. Also the flowers looked sloppy and messy. After looking over it I went back and fixed these issue, changing the shades of blue so there's was more of a difference, as well as touching up on the flowers to give them a more finished look.
