For this project I started with some reference images I got off the internet. However through the course of the project I mixed and merged some elements of some of the photos I had. Not only did I fuse the designs I added some ideas of my own that I though showed a tundra well. I mixed a picture of a forested mountain and a hill in the tundras and chose to add the yak skull. This is how I created my own, unique design.
In this project I learned how to use clay to made different things. While we specifically made tiles in the project some of the skills would be transferable to other clay projects. Before this project I hadn't used clay to make something serious before, only slightly as a kid. So while I've kinda used it a long while ago it was a nice refresher and a lot of new information. It was a very informative and information packed project.
I encountered a plethora of problems during this project. For the skull the horn took a while to get right. Once the horn was finally complete, it refused to stick onto the rest of the skull. However, after wetting it enough it finally stuck. One day when cleaning up, the paper towel put on top of it was not wet enough. The next day the clay was a lot harder and it was much harder to mold. However I persevered through these problems and the final project came out looking nice.
